Conduct regular ambient air quality assessments
Rationale: Regularly testing outdoor air quality levels increases awareness of specific contaminants that can degrade the quality of both outdoor and indoor air, highlighting potential concerns and allowing for remediation, which can reduce risk of dizziness and chronic respiratory issues including asthma and COPD.
For the most accurate strategy and documentation requirements, please refer to the digital scorecard made available on the Fitwel Platform.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Ambient Air Quality Assessment (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:
- Assess the air quality index within all of the following outdoor areas on-site:
- near building mechanical and exhaust areas
- parking areas
- outdoor common areas.
- Conduct air quality index assessment for all of the following pollutants:
- Ozone
- Carbon Monoxide
- PM2.5
- PM10
- Nitrogen Dioxide
- Sulfur Dioxide.
- Conduct air quality index assessment a minimum of twice per year.
Note that specific pollutant levels are not required for this strategy, just that testing is conducted.
Compliance Documentation
Design Pathway
One document type may be used to demonstrate compliance with more than one requirement and documentation may be uploaded separately or as one file.
Provide the below to demonstrate compliance with each requirement:
Requirement 1
- Upload an annotated site plan(s) and/or map(s) identifying:
– all required outdoor areas on-site
– the areas where the air quality index assessment will be conducted
Requirement 2
- Checkbox to certify that air quality index assessment will be conducted to measure all required pollutants.
Requirement 3
- Checkbox to certify that the air quality index assessment will be conducted a minimum of twice per year
Built Pathway
One document type may be used to demonstrate compliance with more than one requirement and documentation may be uploaded separately or as one file.
Provide the below to demonstrate compliance with each requirement:
Requirement 1
- Upload an annotated site plan(s) and/or map(s) identifying:
– all required outdoor areas on-site

Requirement 2
- Upload the conducted air quality index assessment report.
Requirement 3
- Input results showing the highest recorded average levels measured for the following required air quality metrics for all required areas:
- Text box to input Ozone
- Text box to input Carbon Monoxide
- Text box to input PM2.5
- Text box to input PM10
- Text box to input Nitrogen Dioxide
