Provide occupants access to a dedicated fitness facility
Rationale: A dedicated fitness facility with programming and equipment, as well as access to opportunities to engage in aerobic and strength training activities encourages exercise — contributing to reduced risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Fitness Facility (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:
- Identify a dedicated fitness facility located within the project or within a 1/2-mile or 800-meter walking distance of a main building entrance.
- Provide access to the fitness facility free of charge to all residential occupants.
- Include all of the following exercise equipment within the fitness facility:
- mobile fitness equipment (such as yoga mats, free weights, resistance bands)
- stationary equipment (such as indoor bike, elliptical, treadmill).
- Ensure that the fitness facility includes a minimum of one of the following qualifying fitness programs:
- scheduled group fitness classes
- personal training.
- Ensure that the fitness facility offers the qualifying fitness program(s) a minimum of three times per week.
- Ensure the fitness facility is accessible and operational a minimum of 12 hours a day, seven days per week.
Option 2 - Exercise Room (Partial Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with the following requirements:
- Identify a dedicated exercise room located within the project or within a 1/2-mile or 800-meter walking distance of a main building entrance.
- Provide access to the exercise room free of charge to all residential occupants.
- Include all of the following exercise equipment within the exercise room:
- mobile fitness equipment (eg, yoga mats, free weights, resistance bands)
- stationary equipment (eg, indoor bike, elliptical, treadmill).
- Ensure the exercise room is accessible and operational a minimum of 12 hours a day, seven days per week.
