Install a sufficient number of automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
Rationale: Providing AEDs that can be quickly accessed in unrestricted areas for bystander use improves response time to negative cardiac events, contributing to improved survivability.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Automated External Defibrillator (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:
Multi-Tenant Base Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Base Building (with on-site management)
- Provide AEDs that are accessible to all building occupants.
- Ensure that the provided AEDs are tested regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Locate an AED on each occupied floor of the building including tenant-occupied floors.
For floors occupied primarily or entirely by tenants, projects can document AEDs installed and maintained by the tenant.
- Locate an AED on each floor within the project that includes a common space(s).
Regularly occupied common spaces include:
- Areas where building occupants gather for social events such as:
- resident lounge
- common kitchen facilities
- multipurpose room
- game room.
- Common building amenities, such as:
- resource center
- fitness facilities
- exercise room.
Single-Tenant, Commercial Interior
- Provide AEDs that are accessible to all full- and part-time employees and staff within tenant spaces.
- Ensure that the provided AEDs are tested regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Locate an AED on each floor occupied by all full- and part-time employees and staff within tenant spaces.
- Locate an AED on each floor within the project that includes a common space(s).

- Areas where building occupants gather for social events such as:

- common kitchen facilities
- multipurpose room
- game room.
- Common building amenities, such as:
- resource center
- fitness facilities
