In response to your feedback, we will be providing the following clarification: Implementation language update to clarify that these requirements are only applicable to CI space.
Please note, the below requirements and compliance documentation will be updated soon to reflect v3 changes. You can find more information on these revisions in a Change Log that will be available on the Help Center on December 10, 2024. ________________________________________________________________________
Provide accessible water supplies
Rationale: Convenient and universally accessible water bottle refilling stations separate from sinks offer access to clean water, supporting regular hydration and decreasing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages — contributing to reduced risk of conditions associated with dehydration, such as kidney infections, improved nutrition, and decreased rates of diet-related conditions, such as obesity.
For the most accurate strategy and documentation requirements, please refer to the digital scorecard made available on the Fitwel Platform.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Universally Accessible Water Refilling Stations (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:
Multi-Tenant Whole Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Whole Building (with on-site management)
- Provide universally accessible water supplies that meet one of the following qualifying accessibility standards:
- the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements in regards to circulation, heights, and clearances for drinking fountains, water supplies, and/or sinks
- ISO 21542: 2011 requirements for building construction, accessibility, and usability of the building environment in regards to circulation, heights, and clearances for drinking fountains, water supplies, and/or sinks.
- Ensure water supplies include a dispenser or faucet designed to fill jugs, glasses, water bottles, or similar items (bathroom sinks do not qualify).
- Locate water supplies on each floor with regularly occupied spaces accessible to building occupants.
- Ensure that the identified water supplies are accessible free of charge to all building occupants.
Qualifying regularly occupied spaces must include but are not limited to the following:
Workspaces: which include workstations, flexible workspaces, individual offices, and circulation between workstations. Note that hallways, corridors, and elevator banks are not considered regularly occupied spaces.
Common spaces: which include spaces where occupants can gather to work, eat, take breaks, or meet — such as meeting rooms, lactation rooms, quiet rooms, fitness facilities, and reception areas.
Single-Tenant
