What are the Automated External Defibrillators (AED) requirements for certification?

We require automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be located on all occupied floors of the workplace, which includes tenant floors (these are not floors occupied by regular occupants). This is to ensure that in the event of an emergency, a regular occupant could access an AED in a hasty manner. AEDs must also be tested regularly as recommended by the manufacturer. Our AED strategy’s strict requirements are based on the rationale that a readily accessible and tested AED can greatly improve response time to cardiac events, contributing to significantly improved survivability rates. Please note: AEDs can not be located inside locked rooms, or spaces with controlled access. 

Qualifying AED Devices

Type A: Mounted to the Wall

Devices that are mounted to the wall, accessible outside of any locked room or restricted access spaces.

Type B: Portable Device Located in permanent wall shelf

Portable devices that are stored in accessible areas, outside of any locked room or restricted access spaces.
