Provide an outdoor space with amenities

Rationale: Accessible outdoor areas with amenities such as water features, greenery, artwork, tables, and seating are used more frequently by individuals and groups, and this use is associated with positive health outcomes including lower blood pressure and diminished stress.

Requirement Guidance

For buildings with multiple entrances, identify a main building entrance that is used to access a common area within the building such as a lobby, reception area, or main circulation pathway.

Demonstrate compliance with the option below:

Option 1 - Outdoor Space and Amenities (Full Credit):

Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:

Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)

1. Provide access to a minimum of one outdoor space with amenities that is free of charge to all residential occupants.
2. Ensure that the open outdoor space is one of the following:
   • park
   • plaza
   • rooftop
   • patio.
3. Include a minimum of two of the following amenities within the identified outdoor space:
   • furniture
   • art installation
   • pedestrian pathway
   • dedicated bicycle path
   • water feature.
4. Locate the outdoor space amenity within a 1/2-mile or 800-meter walking route of a main building entrance of each building within the project.

Option 2 - Outdoor Space and Amenities Nearby 51% of Buildings (Full Credit):

Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:

Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)

1. Provide access to a minimum of one outdoor space with amenities that is free of charge to all residential occupants.
2. Ensure that the open outdoor space is one of the following:
   – park
   – plaza
   – rooftop
   – patio.
3. Include a minimum of two of the following amenities within the identified outdoor space: 
   – furniture
   – art installation
   – pedestrian pathway
   – dedicated bicycle path
   – water feature.
4. Locate the outdoor space amenity within a 1/2-mile or 800-meter walking route of a main building entrance of 51% of building(s) within the project.

• Requirement 2:
  • Upload an annotated plan or photographs showing the identified outdoor space.       
• Requirement 3:
  • Upload design drawings or photographs showing the amenities within the identified outdoor space.       
• Requirement 4:

  • Upload an annotated map showing the distance between the outdoor space and a main building entrance of the furthest building within the required distance.
