02. Building Access - Short-Term Bicycle Parking

Provide occupants access to short-term bicycle parking

Rationale: Nearby, free, and accessible short-term bicycle parking with adequate capacity results in improved air quality from fewer automobiles on the road, as well as promotes the use of bicycles for transportation and recreation, which is associated with a lowered risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

For buildings with multiple entrances, identify a main building entrance that is used to access a common area within the building such as a lobby, reception area, or main circulation pathway.

Demonstrate compliance with the option below:

Option 1: Short-Term Bicycle Parking (Full Credit):

Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:

Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)

1. Provide short-term bicycle parking that is accessible free of charge to the public.
2. Provide short-term bicycle parking spaces equivalent to one space per 10 dwelling units.
3. Locate the short-term bicycle parking within the project or within 1/4 mile or 400 meters walking route of a main building entrance of each building within the project.

Option 2: Short-Term Bicycle Nearby 51% of Buildings (Partial Credit):

Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:

Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)

1. Provide short-term bicycle parking that is accessible free of charge to the public.
2. Provide short-term bicycle parking spaces equivalent to one space per 10 dwelling units.
3. Locate the short-term bicycle parking within the project or within 1/4 mile or 400 meters walking route of a main building entrance of 51% of the building(s) within the project.
