Provide access to public transit
Rationale: Locating a project near a transit stop with qualifying amenities encourages walking and the use of public transit while simultaneously reducing the use of cars and associated air pollution, contributing to a diminished risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
For the most accurate strategy and documentation requirements, please refer to the digital scorecard made available on the Fitwel Platform.
Requirements
Requirement Guidance
For buildings with multiple entrances, identify a main building entrance that is used to access a common area within the building such as a lobby, reception area, or main circulation pathway.
Transit stops may qualify for more than one building. A combination of transit stops that meet the requirements may qualify for the strategy.
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Accessible Path to Transit Stop (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:
Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)
- Ensure access to one of the below qualifying transit stops designated for group transportation:
- shuttle stop
- bus stop
- light rail station
- heavy rail station
- ferry terminal
- subway station
- tram stop.
- Locate the transit stop within a ½-mile or 800-meter walking route of a main building entrance of each building.
- Ensure the transit stop is connected to a main entrance of all buildings by a pedestrian path that:
- is free of obstacles, such as impeding trees, planting pots, bike racks, steps, or other barriers, that may impede or cause difficulties for those with physical disabilities
- includes pedestrian crossings at street intersections.
Option 2 - Transit Stop without Accessible Path (Partial Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with all of the following requirements:
Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)
- Ensure access to one of the below qualifying transit stops designated for group transportation:
- shuttle stop
- bus stop
- light rail station
- heavy rail station
- ferry terminal
- subway station
tram stop.
Municipal transit stops may be used to meet this strategy.
- Locate the transit stop within a ½-mile or 800-meter walking route of a main building entrance of each building.
Option 3 - Accessible Path to Transit Stop Nearby 51% of Buildings (Partial Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with all of the following requirements:
Low-Rise Residential with shared interior spaces (LR+), Low-Rise Residential with no shared interior spaces (LR)
- Ensure access to one of the below qualifying transit stops designated for group transportation:
- shuttle stop
- bus stop
- light rail station
- heavy rail station
- ferry terminal
- subway station
tram stop.
Municipal transit stops may be used to meet this strategy.
- Locate the transit stop within a ½-mile or 800-meter walking route of a main building entrance of 51% of the building(s) within the project.
- Ensure the transit stop is connected to a main entrance of 51% of buildings by a pedestrian path that:
– is free of obstacles, such as impeding trees, planting pots, bike racks, steps, or other barriers, that may impede or cause difficulties for those with physical disabilities
– includes pedestrian crossings at street intersections.
Compliance Documentation
Design Pathway (LR+, LR)
Option 1:
