In response to your feedback, we will be providing the following expansions and clarifications:
- Adding partial credit for projects with qualifying restrooms meet either the accessibility standard or are single-occupancy.
- Clarifying gender neutral language to confirm that single-occupancy and family restrooms qualify.

Provide access to universally accessible restrooms
Rationale: Ensuring restrooms are accessible for those of all abilities and gender identities increases perceptions of safety and self-esteem, and reduces risk of injury — contributing to fewer injuries and reduced stress levels among marginalized populations.
Requirements
Requirement Guidance: For buildings with multiple entrances, identify a main building entrance that is used to access a common area within the building such as a lobby, reception area, or main circulation pathway. |
Demonstrate compliance with the below:
Universally Accessible Restrooms (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:
- Include a minimum of one restroom that is accessible to all occupants within the project and located within a 1/4-mile or 400-meter walking route of an on-site public open space.
- Ensure that all restrooms meet one of the following standards:
- the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements in regards to toilet facilities
- ISO 21542: 2011 requirements for building construction, accessibility, and usability of the building environment in regards to toilet rooms and sanitary rooms.
- Ensure universal access to restrooms by implementing one of the following:
- posting signage at gender-segregated restrooms stating that people may use restroom consistent with their gender identity
- providing access to single-occupancy, gender neutral restrooms instead of or adjacent to gender segregated restrooms.
