Establish and implement a hazardous material transport and storage protocol
Rationale: A policy that addresses safe collection, storage, transportation, and disposal of common types of hazardous waste reduces toxic chemical exposure for immediate occupants and those who handle waste throughout the supply chain, which decreases the risk of associated neurological, respiratory, immune, and other disorders.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with the below:
Option 1 - Hazardous Material Transport and Storage Protocol - (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with the following requirements:
- Establish and implement a hazardous material transport and storage protocol that is at least as rigorous as the Fitwel Hazardous Material Transport and Storage Protocol.
- Share the protocol with all tenants within the project through a minimum of one of the following methods:
– relevant tenant lease or manual
– a digital platform, such as a website, digital application, or display screen in common areas
– communication material, such as notification emails or newsletters.

Option 2 - No Hazardous Materials - (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with the following requirements:
- Confirm that none of the hazardous materials as listed within the Fitwel Hazardous Material Transport and Storage Protocol are transported or stored on-site.
