Establish and implement a construction safety policy
Rationale: Construction safety practices reduce exposure to harmful chemicals, physical hazards, and noise pollution, supporting quality of sleep and cognitive function and reducing risk of injury and chronic respiratory disease for occupants, employees, and the surrounding community.

Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with the below:
Option 1- Construction Safety Policy (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with the following requirement:
- Implement a Construction Safety Policy that is at least as rigorous as the Fitwel Construction Safety Policy.
The Fitwel Indoor Construction Safety Policy can be found here.
- Ensure the construction safety policy applies to any construction, major renovations, and public space improvements during all phases of construction and renovations as outlined in Section 2 of the Construction Safety Policy.
- Ensure that construction project managers implement all safety practices as outlined in Section 3 of the Construction Safety Policy.
- Implement a community impact assessment for all construction, major renovations, and public space improvements within the project as outlined in the requirements of Section 4 of the Construction Safety Policy.
- Share the policy with all tenants through a minimum of one of the following methods:
– relevant leases or a tenant manual
– a digital platform, such as a website, digital application, or display screen in common areas
– communication material, such as notification emails or newsletters.
Option 2 - Equivalent Standard (Full Credit):
All Scorecards
Provide a Construction Safety Policy through an equivalent standard by meeting all of the following requirements:
1. Conform to the Considerate Constructors Scheme's Code of Considerate Practices with a minimum score that meets the following:
– a minimum of 27 points in total
– a minimum of 9 points per section
– is scored by a Scheme Monitor.
2. Achieve a Considerate Constructors Scheme Certificate of Performance.
Compliance Documentation
For projects with one building:
One document type may be used to demonstrate compliance with more than one requirement and documentation may be uploaded separately or as one file.
Provide the below to demonstrate compliance with each requirement:
Design and Built Pathways
Option 1- Construction Safety Policy (Full Credit):
Requirement 1
- Upload an annotated draft or official copy of the construction safety policy.
Requirement 2
- Checkbox to certify that the construction safety policy will apply to any construction, major renovations, and public space improvements during all phases of construction and renovations
Requirement 3
- Checkboxes to certify that construction project managers will implement the following safety practices (all required):
- Physical and Environmental Health Safety Practices
- Construction Safety Risk Assessment
- Noise Pollution
- Pedestrian and Street Safety Practices
Requirement 4
- Checkbox to certify that a community impact assessment for all construction, major renovations, and public space improvements within the project will be implemented as outlined in the requirements of Section 3 of the Construction Safety Policy.
Requirement 5
- Select here to certify that the construction safety policy will be shared with all tenants through the following methods (select all that apply):
- a digital platform, such as a website, digital application, or display screen in common areas
- communication material, such as notification emails or newsletters
- relevant leases or a tenant manual
- Not Applicable: this is a single tenant site.
Option 2 - Equivalent Standard (Full Credit):
Requirement 1
- Upload the official report of the qualifying equivalent scheme showing:
– the project's address
– the rating system and version
– the detailed report from the Scheme Monitor showing the scores for each section
Requirement 2
- Upload the official Certificate of Performance demonstrating conformance to the Code.
