Provide a sufficient number of certified emergency responders
Rationale: Ensuring that a sufficient number of trained and equipped certified first responders are on site decreases response time and the likelihood of morbidity and mortality during emergencies such as cardiac arrest and traumatic injury.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Certified First Responders (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:
- Identify certified first responders (CFR) who are full-time employees working within the building.
- Provide one CFR for every 100 building occupants with no more than 10 CFRs required.
- Ensure CFRs are trained and certified in one of the following:
- Certified First Response (CFR)
- overdose response.
- Certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) that educates trainees on de-escalation techniques and how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of:
- anxiety
- acute stress disorders
- depression
- substance use disorders
- suicidality or self-harm
- abuse or neglect.
- Ensure CFRs have access to all of the following resources:
- Automated External Defibrillator(s) (AED)
- Narcan or Naloxone
- first aid resources
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Option 2 - Single Certification First Responders (Partial Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with the following requirements:
- Identify certified first responders (CFR) who are full-time employees working within the building.
- Provide one CFR for every 100 building occupants with no more than 10 CFRs required.
- Ensure CFRs are trained and certified in one of the following:
- Certified First Response (CFR)
- overdose response.
- Certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) that educates trainees on de-escalation techniques and how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of:
- anxiety
- acute stress disorders
- depression
- substance use disorders
- suicidality or self-harm
- abuse or neglect.
- Ensure CFRs have access to a minimum of three of the following resources:
- Automated External Defibrillator(s) (AED)
- Narcan or Naloxone
- first aid resources
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
