Establish and implement a substance use support program for building occupants
Rationale: Regular, free access to substance use support programs while prohibiting “zero tolerance” policies effectively helps occupants recover from addiction, lowering the risks of related health issues such as accidents, injury, chronic disease, mortality, and depression.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Substance Use Support Program (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:
- Establish and implement a substance use support program for all occupants within the building.
- Include a minimum of two of the following services within the substance use support program:
- alcohol and other drug use recovery program
- alcohol and other drug use education program
- tobacco cessation
- group support programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Al-Anon.
- Provide access to the substance use support program free of charge to all occupants within the building.
- Ensure the program is offered a minimum of once per week.
- Publicize the program to all occupants within the building.
- Ensure the program is made accessible virtually for those who cannot meet in-person.
- Ensure the substance use support program prohibits zero tolerance policies.
Option 2 - Access to Off-Site Services (Full Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with the following requirements:
- Provide off-site access to a minimum of two of the qualifying substance use support services:
- alcohol and other drug use recovery program
- alcohol and other drug use education program
- tobacco cessation
- group support programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Al-Anon.
- Provide access to the substance use support program free of charge to all occupants within the building.
- Ensure that the identified programs are each offered a minimum of once per week.
- Publicize the program to all occupants within the building.
- Ensure the program is made accessible virtually for those who cannot meet in-person.
- Ensure the substance use support program prohibits zero tolerance policies.
