Rationale: Providing an accessible dining area with welcoming design features, group seating, and multiple meal services per day supports resident independence and autonomy, promotes social interaction, and fosters healthy eating habits, which leads to improved nutrition, and an overall sense of dignity.
Requirements
Demonstrate compliance with the below:
Option 1 - Three Daily Meals (Full Credit):
To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with the following requirement:
- Provide a minimum of one dining area that is located within the building.
- Ensure that the dining area is accessible to all residential occupants and visitors.
- Serve a minimum of three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), seven days a week.
- Ensure the dining area is open a minimum of two hours per meal.
- Provide flexible seating and tables.
- Provide 51% of tables with seating for a minimum of four people.
- Provide a minimum of three of the qualifying features in the dining area:
- a music system
- a self-service area with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee and tea
- hanged framed artwork
- painted walls with bright colors
- alcoves for privacy
- high banquettes.
Option 2 - Two Daily Meals (Partial Credit):
To achieve partial credit, demonstrate compliance with the following requirement:
- Provide a minimum of one dining area that is located within the building.
- Ensure that the dining area is accessible to all residential occupants and visitors.
- Serve a minimum of two meals a day, seven days a week.
- Ensure the dining area is open a minimum of two hours per meal.
- Provide flexible seating and tables.
- Provide 51% of tables with seating for a minimum of four people.
