Confirm that asbestos has been properly abated and control measures are implemented

Rationale: Confirming that all asbestos has either been removed or abated prevents dangerous exposure to asbestos and supports enhanced indoor air quality, contributing to reduced risk of skin irritation, lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other pulmonary diseases.

Requirements

Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:

Option 1 - Asbestos Control Measures (Full Credit):

To achieve full credit, demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:

Multi-Tenant Whole Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Whole Building (with on-site management)

1. Implement asbestos control measures that include one of the following:

• abatement
• encapsulation
• enclosure
• repair
• clean up.

2. Ensure that the identified control measures are performed by a certified professional.
3. Ensure that the identified control measures are required for future renovations within the building.
4. Ensure that the control measures are implemented in all areas of the building.

Single-Tenant, Commercial Interior

1. Implement asbestos control measures that include one of the following:

• abatement
• encapsulation
• enclosure
• repair
• clean up.

2. Ensure that the identified control measures are performed by a certified professional.
3. Ensure that the identified control measures are required for future renovations within the building.
4. Ensure that the control measures are implemented in all areas of the building.

Option 2 - Asbestos-Free Construction (Full Credit):

Demonstrate compliance with all of the following requirements:

Multi-Tenant Whole Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Whole Building (with on-site management)

1. Ensure that the building construction was completed after the use of asbestos in construction was banned in the country or region where building is located.

Single-Tenant, Commercial Interior

1. Ensure that the building construction was completed after the use of asbestos in construction was banned in the country or region where building is located.

Option 1:

• Upload the official report showing the asbestos control measure that was been implemented
• Checkbox to certify that at least one of the following lead control measures will be or has been implemented
  • abatement
  • encapsulation
  • enclosure
  • repair
  • clean up

• Checkbox to certify that the identified control measures are required for future renovations within the building
