Place educational point-of-decision signs promoting stair use at elevator call areas and escalators
Rationale: Point-of-decision signage has been shown to encourage occupants to climb stairs instead of taking elevators and escalators when able, increasing physical activity and decreasing the risk of chronic conditions associated with sedentary lifestyles such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Demonstrate compliance with one of the options below:
Option 1 - Motivational and Educational Signage (Full Credit):
Demonstrate compliance with all the following requirements:
Multi-Tenant Base Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Base Building (with on-site management)
- Promote stair use by including point-of-decision signage that includes all of the following:
- motivational language encouraging the use of stairs
- educational language on the health benefits of stair use.
- Locate point-of-decision signage at all the following areas:
- elevator call areas within the building(s)
- the beginning of each escalator.
Stairs documented in this strategy must be the same stairs documented in the Stair Access strategy.
Single-Tenant, Commercial Interior
- Promote stair use by including point-of-decision signage that includes all of the following:
- motivational language encouraging the use of stairs
- educational language on the health benefits of stair use.
- Locate point-of-decision signage at all the following areas:
- elevator call areas within the building(s)
- the beginning of each escalator.
Stairs documented in this strategy must be the same stairs documented in the Stair Access strategy.
Option 2 - Motivational Signage - (Partial Credit):
The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with the following requirements:
Multi-Tenant Base Building (no on-site management), Multi-Tenant Base Building (with on-site management)
- Promote stair use by including point-of-decision signage that includes motivational language encouraging the use of stairs
- Locate point-of-decision signage at all the following areas:
- elevator call areas within the building(s)
- the beginning of each escalator.

The project may achieve partial credit by demonstrating compliance with the following requirements:

- Confirm that there are no elevators or escalators within the building(s).
Single-story buildings do not qualify for this strategy.
Single-Tenant, Commercial Interior
- Confirm that there are no elevators or escalators within the building(s).
Single-story buildings do not qualify for this strategy.
